Tanzania, located in Eastern Africa, is officially known as the United Republic of Tanzania. It is a member of the African Union and the World Trade Organization. The economy of Tanzania is mainly agriculture-based. Most of the population of Tanzania is involved in farming. Agriculture products include cotton, corn, coffee, sisal, tea, pyrethrum, cashew nuts, tobacco, cloves, wheat, cassava (tapioca), fruits, bananas and vegetables. The country has rich deposits of gold, gypsum, salt, phosphates and kaolin. Main industries are agricultural processing, diamond and gold mining, shoes, oil refining, cement, textiles, wood products, fertilizer and salt. |
